They are always understanding, they teach you skills such as respect, focus, perseverance, self-control and many more. They also have a very clean school, every time I come it is always clean and smells amazing. One of the other things is that they always try their very best to make you the best you can be, and to help you master the techniques.

Poor Quality Instruction

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

They have a purple belt who cannot throw a punch. I find it ridiculous that someone with such obvious lack of skill would be promoted that far. It should have been addressed before promotion to yellow belt - I just am appalled at the lack of technique being taught. Repetition is important; repetition of the wrong form is BAD! Its such an easy concept!

The Sensei taught less than 25% of the classes, although we received regular lectures about what he expects from us. He yelled at his employee in front of everyone else instead of prepping her with instruction before the class she joined. He yells at female students regularly and brings up hormones sometimes while hes yelling. Women are also sensitive if they disagree with him. *** yell at the whole class instead of teaching the student who is having trouble - or addressing the problem with them directly. Sometimes people go in when theyre recovering from a cold and dont want to miss. They might be sluggish or having trouble breathing but giving it 100% - and he yells at the class because some people just dont wanna put forth the effort. Even though he barely taught. Thank goodness. Hes moody and controlling. Discipline is one thing, but fishing for compliments while telling us to be louder in all our expected answers was laughable at best. He should also be TEACHING, not training us to respond like dogs to his commands or anyone elses.

I feel bad for him. He clearly takes pride in what he has accomplished and enjoys martial arts. But he takes the joy away from his students and he refuses to recognize his students potential talent - its not about them. Its all about the Sensei.

He can be funny and some classes we did have fun. Hes trying to do right by his students during the quarantine. Its fine for a few months but long term? Bad habits and no professional associations; a lot of yelling explained as traditional discipline, which it is absolutely not.

In response to some other comments, the dojo was always clean. I also never saw the Sensei making advances towards the moms or adult female students, not even the really pretty ones. Ladies will be safe at least from that at this dojo.

Purple, yellow, whatever ; to launch a personally insulting diatribe against a named individual on an open internet website forum which may damage his business or lead to diminished receipts later leaves you wide open to a libel suit which carries weight. You had better be 100% sure that you can verify every allegation with something other than hearsay or emotion.

You had better be an expert to explain why he can't be a purple or a yellow or a blue or whatever. Hopefully you perform better in the classes you teach.

Initially, the services we received with Basches martial Arts were promising; motivated and encouraging sensei , reasonable pricing and a sense of being a valued customer. After some time, these good qualities began to dissipate and left us beyond disappointed. ( Please note that the positive reviews on other sites are via parents/ students within this ,” honeymoon “ phase, if you will. Their reviews are solicited by this company thus hindering them inadequate). Mr Basche began to focus more on bringing in new clients rather than his existing customers. He almost completely stopped teaching classes and his main goal was his bottom line. In fact , there were classes that he interrupted to tell his assistant to go and bring in people peering in at the dojo and sign them up . Incredibly unprofessional and rude . The price of classes & belt ceremonies were raised ( without parental knowledge) but the product was worsening. Additionally, sensi was flat out rude to paying clients. He shooed away parents in the viewing room that had babies too loud, told parents that if they whispered to each other during class that he would,” call them out” and dismissed any concerns brought forth. If you were a higher wage earner you were seen as more valuable and treated as such. There is absolutely no schedule that students need to learn in order to progress in belt ranking. With each belt, you may not learn any new moves or techniques. In fact , students with several colors of belts are in the same class. You are promoted simply by hours spent at the dojo or in layman’s terms money spent. The martial Arts is a practice that strives on respect, self control, focus and inner peace; all qualities that we hoped to gain by taking classes. We however found that the man in charge of this dojo lacked all of these traits. In the end, we were out of patience, ran dry of money and were treated like second class citizens. Don’t fall down this money pit!

Don't waste your time

This so called Sensei will rip you off. Always offering family and children discounts.

Of course it's part of his scam . The place is a dump. Mats are smelly and stained. Floors always full of dirt.

My friend had his son enrolled there for 1 week.

Picked up bronchitis and a staph infection. Hose the place down with bleach and close it.

This is not true at all, I worked at basches for several months and we cleaned everything (minus the walls) at least every other day.

Guest

This post is false. Sensei takes pride in the cleanliness of this dojo. My son has been attending a little more than a year and goes about 3 times a week and not once have I seen it even slightly dirty!

Guest

Wow your negative remarks are all false and you know it. My name is Alyssa Nichols and our son Trent has been going here for a year and a half now at this school and trains 5 days a week for two hours a day.

He is a great leader now and because of Sensai Basche your comments you describe about Basches Martial Arts school are all false! I know this because I am always here watching him train and his school is the cleanest I have ever seen.

The school is a very clean place and I have never in the 1 1/2 years of our child attending this school has ever seen what you call dirty. We take pride knowing that Sensai Basche demands a clean environment is his facility and demands the student are clean before they come to class.

OMG, you have got to be kidding me. Worst school ever unless your one of his chosen 5.

Trent is one of those if your not in the fab 5 it’s an awful awful program. Wasted time, wasted money!

Guest

As someone who has been involved with Basche's Martial Arts a number of years, I can say that this review is not true. The floors are mopped daily and the mats are brand new.

Unless you can definitively prove it, you shouldn't claim someone picked up an illness at any specific location. It's easy to hide behind an anonymous review rather than allow Sensei Basche to address your concerns.

Not creditable references

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
This guy claims Joe Lewis promoted him, LIE. He claims master rank. LIE. He has no official rank certification from anyone and also teaches a *** made up system that no one recognizes. He shows up at tournaments and acts like he is all this and that but never competes. He is completely a McDojo. ..a place that sells lies and rips of students. Find a real school, a school teaching a real martial art and one that has actual certificates that prove their rank and experience. There are so many better places to train in our area than jokers like this.

Professional Martial Arts Instructor

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My children have been students for several years. Mr. Basche has always been professional and an excellent instructor. He is the best of the best. Anyone that has a complaint with him should just go talk to him. He is always resonable and kind. If you won't do that, it's probably because you can't pay your bill or you are trying to promote another dojo. Why not leave your name? It's amazing that an anonymous person can be so negative about a special and very good hearted person without any way to follow up on your complaint. Most people can see through this immature act. It looks like you could learn some respect. As far as Joe Lewis goes, he did promote Mr. Basche. I was there and have pictures.

We have been taking our 5yr old daughter here for a month. We love it! The teacher helps them learn respect for their parents, self-control, martial arts, discipline, and all while having fun. My child's temper tantrums have stopped and she has been doing her chores without whining. Any place that can help this drastically with a child's attitude 30mins/3 days a week is worth it! Some of the other reviews stated that the owner wasn't always at his location. As I understand it, he teaches classes at other locations around Ft. Wayne, so he's not always going to be reachable at all times. He seems very busy, but he's juggling teaching and running his business, which is understandable. He is always very professional, kind and wants to see all the children succeed. I like that his classes aren't the same thing every week. He changes it up so the kids don't get bored. He teaches them how to stay safe in different situations. I like that we can watch the classes in the sitting area. If you are in doubt, he will give you at least one free class to let your child try. I highly recommend Basche's Martial Arts!

NOT A MONEY PIT FOR SENSI BASCHE!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We were happy with the initial month so I decided to sign my son up, but when we were told it was $150 a month- I took the "good deal" and paid for a full year (over $1500) to save $.We were happy with my son's behaviors improving.

NOT EVEN 2 months into the year I was told that my son was "getting bored" and needed to move up to the next class. In order to do that I had to sign up FOR ANOTHER YEAR! I was told he (STEVE BASCHE) wasn't going to waste the effort of training these kids if they aren't committed. I wasn't committing my kid to 2 yrs- 1 year was bad enough.

I would have no problem paying for equipment but to get over $3000 from me in a couple of months wasn't going to happen. My son stayed in the same basic ("boring" per sensei) class for the entire year. I also don't think everyone pays the same price. The prices aren't posted anywhere and I feel we were sized up by what we drove and did for a living.

While there were some positives, the shady business/ money practices will keep me from ever recommending them.

The other employees were great.Sensei has some issues.

BEWARE!! PRICES ARE NOT POSTED!!!!

So true did the same thing here and would get mad if you couldn't make it to class also had alot of the kids doing his job on teaching the other kids seen this alot like every class something always came up with him so the kids had to teach class he would try to cover it up and say it was part of their training my child was never bored just fed up and yes I don't think the price range of 150 was for everyone although that was the price I paid.my child really enjoyed learning but not from other kids who them selves wasn't doing the moves correct then he would yell at the kids for not doing them right hello you get paid to train them maybe that's what you should do

Undecided Consumer

Looking into the facility it looks professional. Although, I am wondering why the students are sometimes slipping on the floor. There are no mats or at least they were not made available to the students that day. The class started and the students looked very respectful when class commenced. Another younger student was teaching the class. I asked the person observing next to me if this was typical. They had observed class twice and said it had been taught by another student or a higher ranking person such as the black belt. I felt this was odd since I was there to observe someone teaching with years and years of experience. I did not see this when I was there and apparently neither had the person next to me. Why would I pay a monthly fee to be taught by someone that had minimal experience? I wanted to be taught by someone who had quite a bit of knowledge. the belts that were learning at this class varied. .. belts were different colors. I would of thought that all belts of a certain color advance together. Guess I was wrong. I didn't like the floor as some students slid or got toes stubbed and were in pain.

BEWARE & BE LEERY!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I was looking for a karate facility for my daughter. A friend told me a new Karate Business moved in near our neighborhood so I should try it. I went to the facility and the hours are on the door however the facility was closed. Why are the hours showing they should be open and they were closed? Maybe it was a fluke, so I decided to try again. Two days later tried again and same thing...CLOSED!! Looked this place up on the internet and the reviews are mixed... Appears that the business has been operating under many different names with many different address from Albion, Kendallville to a couple locations in Fort Wayne. I understanding moving locations as class size grows but WHY USE A DIFFERENT NAME?? Read the reviews under dojo... UNBELEIVABLE!! Makes me leery to drop off my daughter when the place is closed and continues to open up under different names and locations... Maybe the review are correct - BEWARE!!

While he may be professional teaching, I have a fri3nd who he has be3n making advances to. My fri3nd is a married woman and he made her uncomfortable during class because she denied his advances.

Not something I would like my kid seeing.

I would like to answer comment #582723. I know this school and this instructor and know the good he had done in the city of Fort Wayne.

Are you really so upset simply because no one happened to be at the school when you happened to stop by. Did you call so that someone could set an appointment for you? Did you even call to leave a message that you wanted to come in? As for your other concern, the name Basche has always been attached to the school.

There is no secret or hidden agenda as you imply. Lastly, You commented that "maybe the reviews are correct" If you read ALL the reviews you will find many more positive ones. Why not assume that maybe these positive reviews are correct?

As for the negative drama, why not set an appointment with Sensei Basche and discuss your concerns face to face before you pass judgement on what you don't know. I challenge you to try it.

Tried to call to set up an appointment. Website says business is open 9-9. Read review and saw someone had issues with stopping by unannounced. I personally can say voicemail box was full twice, two days in a row, so how can someone set appointment? Just saying. Wanted to try and see if it would benefit my three year old on the odd days of preschool. Can't set an appointment if I cannot leave a message for someone to call me back so we can talk. I can understand how someone is afraid of places that cannot be reached by phone and doesn't check messages... again JUST SAYING!

As a representative for Basche's Martial Arts, I would like to offer an apology that you found our voicemail full. We check the calls everyday.

In fact, in response to this concern, we checked the message again to make sure it picked up. We are growing so fast the voicemail fills up quickly and you may have called at a time before we were able to clear it. Sensei Basche has asked that I extend to you one free month for your child. Little Tiger classes are at 4pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and you can walk in.

Don't rely on secondhand opinions. We welcome you to come see for yourself the difference Basche's Martial Arts can make.
